Project coordinators of three port related projects – SmartShip, DataPorts and PortForward – held the first online meeting to get to know each other and to discuss the possibillities for future collaboration.

The aim is to leverage the synergies and best practices that arise from the combination of various competencies within the three projects, which share the overall goal of promoting the digitalization in European ports.

In particular, SmartShip aims to bring together Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) of focused Universities, Research Institutions and Companies oriented into the maritime sector in order to build a holistic integrated ICT-based framework for the sustainable, individualized and completely automated energy management of ships. Whereas DataPorts will provide a Data Platform in which transportation and logistics companies around a seaport will be able to manage data like any other company asset, in order to create the basis to offer cognitive services. Similarly, PortForward strives to develop new concepts in order to operate small and medium-sized ports with the help of digital solutions in a smarter, more networked and environmentally friendly way.

It was agreed to continue exchanging views and ideas as well as identifying concrete steps for future collaboration.
